There's no public sign-up. Reading the archive needs no account at all. Volunteer and admin accounts are created only after an application is reviewed and approved — see "Become a Volunteer".

Every role is open — interviewing, writing and archiving, translating, research, photography, keeping the archive readable, and finding the people whose knowledge would otherwise never reach us. Applications are read personally, one at a time, never scored automatically.

Every record arrives marked "pending review." A person reads it, confirms anything unclear with the contributor, and only then does it go anywhere — at the access level the contributor chose.

Every record carries one of three honest labels: Documented, Contributor's Account, or Family Tradition — never presented as more certain than it is.
